Admission

Historylinks is a registered charity and relies on income from the shop and admission charges to keep the Museum open and maintain and develop exhibitions and displays.

Tickets are valid for 7 days allowing multiple re-entry for the purchaser.

* If you are a UK tax payer you may choose to make a donation in lieu of the admission charge which will allow us to claim an additional 25% rebate on your donation from HMRC. Ask at reception for details.

Donations

Historylinks exists thanks to the support of our visitors and members. If you would like to help us to ‘Keep the Dornoch Story Alive’  then please visit our Donations page and make a donation on-line.  

All donations, large or small, will be most gratefully received.

Car Parking

There is a small car park at the museum, with a larger public car park, suitable for coaches, in The Meadows.

Visiting Parties

Please contact us beforehand if your party is bigger than 12.

Accessibility

  • The museum is all on one level and accessible by wheelchair or buggies
  • We have a wide car park bay 10m from the entrance door reserved for visitors in possession of a blue park badge.
  • We have male and female accessible toilets in the Museum.
  • Please contact us if you have any questions about accessibility or you require additional assistance for your visit.

  • Historylinks aims to make presentation and interpretation as clear as possible. Many of the displays are graphic interpretations of the story of Dornoch, supplemented by films and display cases showing some of the 12,000 items in our collection.
  • We endeavour to follow best practice when selecting text fonts, sizes and colours for our displays, to best assist those with partial or poor vision.
  • A hearing loop is available throught the museum.

Translations

Translations of the core exhibits are available in French, German, Italian, Dutch, Swedish and Gaelic.

Access to information and archive

The Museum will try and help with all enquiries. We also provide access to our website and Image Library (providing an image and basic details of all objects in the museum collection) from a computer within the small reference area of the museum.

By prior request items* from the collection can be examined at Historylinks at a mutually agreed time and date. A minimum of 5 days notice is normally required.

* Historylinks reserves the right to refuse a request if it considers the item to be particularly fragile or of a sensitive nature.
